The pressure from atlas dysfunction on the vagus nerve can disrupt the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, causing the individual to remain in a constant “fight-or-flight” mode. This situation increases susceptibility to stress and panic attacks. The vagus nerve, one of the longest nerves in the body, starts from the brainstem and connects to vital organs such as the digestive system, heart, and lungs. Therefore, pressure on the vagus nerve can directly affect digestive, respiratory, and cardiac functions.

Atlas blockage typically increases pressure on the ventral vagus (anterior vagus), leading to excessive sympathetic activity. The ventral vagus is associated with feelings of safety, social connections, and emotional regulation. When this nerve is under pressure, individuals may constantly feel insecurity, anxiety, and panic. As a result, they may struggle to form healthy social bonds with their surroundings. For instance, phobias like acrophobia (fear of heights) or aquaphobia (fear of water) may also stem from dysfunctions of the vagus nerve. During the treatment process, correcting the atlas angle has been observed to alleviate these phobias, allowing individuals to lead calmer and more balanced lives.

Relationship Between Pressure Changes, Hearing Loss, and Atlas

Patients often report complaints such as “I experienced hearing loss after getting on a plane” or “I started hearing ringing after going up to a high place,” which typically indicate a relationship between the Eustachian tube and the atlas angle. The Eustachian tube is the structure that balances the pressure in the middle ear, and when it cannot adapt to sudden pressure changes, symptoms like hearing loss and tinnitus may occur. When the atlas angle is disrupted, dysfunction can arise in these neural connections, leading to pressure on the Eustachian tube.

In many cases, atlas dysfunctions have been identified in patients experiencing unilateral hearing loss. For instance, hearing loss or tinnitus that is more pronounced in the left ear may indicate dysfunction in the left-side atlas. MRI and other imaging techniques can be used to detect this condition. If the atlas angle is corrected during the treatment process, symptoms that develop due to pressure changes may regress. With the correction of the atlas angle, the function of the vagus nerve returns to normal, significantly reducing symptoms such as hearing loss and tinnitus.

The misalignment of the atlas vertebra (C1) and its pressure on the vagus nerve can be at the root of many neurological and systemic issues.
